Rick Wesenberg , Nonpartisan, District Attorney


Rick Wesenberg has been serving as the Douglas County District Attorney since July 2008, and has served in the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office since 1992.
Rick lives in Sutherlin with his wife Gillian and son Lee. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin on January 4th, 1964. He completed has Doctorate of Jurisprudence (law) degree, at the University of Oregon, in 1991, and moved to Douglas County in 1992.
“As your District Attorney, I will ensure the aggressive and effective prosecution of crime. I am committed to the compassionate and respectful treatment of crime victims. I will fairly, efficiently and impartially enforce Oregon Law.”
Rick is actively involved with the community serving as a school board member for the Phoenix School, co-chair of the Meth Task Force, served as a city councilor for Sutherlin, and president of the Douglas County Bar Association.
Here are some of Rick Wesenberg’s career accomplishments:
• 15 years as a successful criminal prosecutor
• Extensive county management and legal administrative experience
• Successfully prosecuted thousands of criminal cases
• Secured convictions of many of Douglas County’s most dangerous and violent criminals.
• Successfully prosecuted the most difficult and complex criminal cases included aggravated murder and sexual assault on children.
• Supervised the Senior and Child Abuse Prevention Teams.
• Created “hold the line” budget for the District Attorney’s Office for fiscal 2008-2009
